Mads Mikkelson and Hugh Dancy in Hannibal, Hannibal over Will's shoulder, staring at his back

Mads Mikkelsen is once again out here giving hope to the fannibals. Speaking to Business Insider about his body of villainous work, from Le Chiffre to Voller and beyond, the actor said exactly what we want to hear:

“It’s no secret that all of us who were part of the cast and Bryan, we all want to go back. It’s got to happen eventually sooner than later because we’re not getting any younger, right? But the story itself can jump, it can have that gap, which is fine. So it’s all about finding a home for it, but that’s nothing concrete out there now.”

The stars—and creator—of Hannibal have been saying for years that they would like to make more Hannibal. Last year, around the tenth anniversary of the show’s premiere, Hugh Dancy (who played Will Graham) got practical about what’s stopping them, telling Collider: “I’m not exactly surprised because essentially, first and foremost, somebody has to write a fairly sizable check. I’m not talking about me being paid. I’m talking about the cost of making a season of television.”

In 2022, creator Bryan Fuller told Digital Spy, “I think it’s wonderful that folks are still passionate about Hannibal, and certainly I am, and the cast is, and everyone would love to return if we had the opportunity.”

When Business Insider asked Mikkselsen where he thought the show might go, if it were revived, the actor demurred, saying, “He’s got a few ideas, Bryan. So I can’t really reveal any, in case we do start.”

He did have one very definitive answer, though. Asked whether Le Chiffre, Voller, or Hannibal would win in a fight, Mikkelsen said, “Hannibal.”

Never go up against a beautifully dressed flesh-eating chef when death is on the line. Isn’t that how the line from Princess Bride goes?

If we’re very, very lucky, Hannibal may return one day. icon-paragraph-end
